To the Member Clubs of Eurotary 87
April 28, 2003
Dear Fellow Eurotarians,
Last year’s Assembly of Eurotary 87, so gloriously carried out by the Rotary Club of The Wreake Valley, was held the eleventh Assembly since the take-off of the Eurotary fraternity of European Rotary Clubs and was held 10 years after.the start at Gordes, France. During the General Meeting we presented our plans for the 12th Assembly to be held at Kolbäck, and the Meeting agreed that the 2003 Assembly will be extended to four days.
With these lines we heartily welcome you to attend the TWELFTH Assembly of Eurotary 87, hosted by the Kolbäck Rotary Club (D 2340), Sweden. The Assembly will keep you busy for four days, from 11th to 14h September 2003.
Slnce 1993, when we hosted the Second Assembly, the content and the sheer size of the arrangements have grown considerably. We offer you four days aiming at giving new insights into contemporary as well as traditional Sweden – and above all, some thick slices of wild Sweden. We live close to nature and have found ways and means to let people use the common nature without consuming it. The Programme sheet will show you that you will have new experiences together with new, and old, friends. The Thursday morning golf for those so inclined takes place at the Surahammar Golf Course with its park course character. The get-together on Thursday night takes you right out into the local wilderness for a traditional evening, hopefully with some visiting fauna (any moose on the loose?). And so the Assembly is definitely on. The lively General Meeting will discuss and possibly decide about our problem with the formal position of Eurotary 87 – a Fellowship or an Inter-country Committee?
Accomodation is centred on Brukshotellet at Hallstahammar, the main town of the Municipality 8 kilometres north of Kolbäck. It has an excellent position between the Strömsholm Canal and a nature reserve inside the town limits of Hallstahammar (yes). On the forthcoming Registration Form you can express your wish for homestay with a Rotarian family.
To make a budget is always an interesting task. The four days’ programme does take a little more money than what three days would have done. The level we have found is SEK 5.800, for a couple and SEK 3.500 for a single person. No doubt this is a higher level than in 2002, but we feel sure that you will have value for the money.
We have prepared a short introduction into the Art of Travelling to Sweden which we enclose. Kolbäck is quite easily reached by road, by railroad and even by air, especially if you can use a connection between London-Stansted and Stockholm-Västerås. But most of all we enclose our best wishes to all the member clubs of Eurotary 87 – you are all very welcome to Kolbäck this September. We would appreciate a preliminary report about probable attendance from each Club by June 6 and definite Regilstration by July 4.
Yours in Rotary
